Old castle of Dubovac

The best view at Karlovac is from the old Castle of Dubovac, which during the 15th   and 16th  centuries, was governed by Dukes Frankopan and Zrinski. The Castle of Dubovac is situated on an ancient hilltop overlooking the Kupa River, and the highest tower of the castle now is used as a museum and belvedere. The Castle has been restored through the centuries, most recently in 1960. This renaissance castle has elements of gothic architecture, that is, an unsymmetrical ground-plan with three round towers and one square shaped tower that was used for defense. It is a very attractive complex in all seasons, especially during the time of the Medieval Fair. The site takes on a timeless quality that attracts one and all.  The Medieval Fair is an interesting and educational entertainment event that attracts thousands of visitors to Karlovac every year during the month of May.

The Castle of Dubovac has many other potentials because it is underutilized. The castle has available open outdoor space and available floor space for development.  However, the historic value and nature of the castle must be preserved.  Old Castle of Dubovac is owned by the City of Karlovac.
